Motocross Knee Brace – Why Knee Braces?

Prevention is better than cure. This proverb aptly summarises the use of protective gear in extreme sports and sporting activities. However, many sporting fans even now think that knee braces are for kids, a helmet is good enough when it comes to skating, boarding, motor biking or even motocross.

Consider the fact that motocross involves extreme stunts to be performed which if not done with skill and expertise can result in extreme injuries, similar to the stunts. Doesn’t this make it much more important to be better protected?

In fact, people who have been through career shattering motocross accidents feel that riding a bike without knee braces is like riding a bike without a helmet. Speciality knee braces or more commonly, motocross knee braces have been around for quite a while and due to rising popularity of the cool sport, motocross knee braces are soaring in popularity.

You need to make an informed about what you are going to need for knee protection. Now there are basically two different techniques of bracing. One method of bracing the knee is to try and mimic the movement of the knee and offer additional stability through the material.

However, many such braces usually give very little freedom for flexing the knee as they are much stronger than the knee themselves. The aim ultimately is to prevent injury by transferring the load to the support instead of the knee. Some popular constructions go by the names of Cell, Edge, Defender Pro, etc.

The second technique offers more flexible protection and while the basic working is similar, this type of construction also moves along the contours of the leg, thus offering extra vigour and stability. This brace works not by absorbing the shock but by displacing it over a larger area of the leg.

Some popular versions are Rage and RS6.
